WHY PERFORM THESE INSPECTIONS??
Elimination, shielding, reduction, and/or avoidance of electromagnetic fields and micro-wave pulse modulated radio frequency (RF) radiation can often be rapidly accomplished on site.An inspection recommends solutions and environmental improvements: 1) for those who wish to maintain a healthy lifestyle, with minimum stress, on their property, and in their home, or office, and, 2) for those with allergies, and who are electrical hypersensitive (EHS), chemically sensitive,, and chronically ill.(Additional EHS information on website CD)
Measurements of alternating current (a.c.) magnetic fields are primarily taken in proximity of a.c. wiring and electrical equipment, within buildings.Values for a.c. magnetic fields, will be very low in large outdoor areas, unless in the proximity of high voltage power lines (above or below ground).Long-term health, based on research, indicates that a.c. magnetic field values be at, or below, 2 milliGause (200 nanoTesla) in areas occupied for long time periods (primarily bedrooms, offices and outdoor shop areas)
Measurements of a.c. electric fields are primarily taken in proximity of a.c. wiring and electrical equipment, in buildings.In large outdoor areas, unless near high voltage power lines (above or below ground), the a.c. electric field measurements would be negligible and not useful.Research indicates that it is best that a.c. electric field values be 10 Volts/meter or less in areas occupied for long time periods (bedrooms, offices and outdoor shop areas).
Measurements of pulse-modulated RF radiation microwave fields are conducted on property and within buildings to determine lowest values in areas occupied for long time periods.International standards for personal exposure have recently been shown by research to be excessive.Cellular phone reception is still possible for levels below 0.1 microWatts/square meter (mW/m2), a value to approach.This is a goal that is well below the strict exposure limits of the Building Biology Guidelines and international standards.
MITIGATION/SHIELDINGThe best shielding for magnetic field exposures is distance; other types of shielding are expensive, but available – Mumetal is used primarily to shield electric breaker boxes and transformers in high occupancy areas of homes and businesses.Thus, determine the distance from the source to the point where the detected field finally equals the lowest magnetic field in the room, especially in living areas of maximum use.
Electric fields can be eliminated by using grounded conductive metal, which, by induction, absorbs the field and neutralizes it by grounding,Aluminum foil on interior walls or on sheathing insulation, in areas of concern, can be used.All wall wiring can be installed inside grounded metal conduit (required in commercial buildings).
Microwave shielding can also be accomplished by use of ungrounded reflective metal, such as aluminum foil (radiant heat barriers) in attic and on wall (reduces a/c costs year-round), or on sheathing, and metal screens on windows.The microwave (like radar) is primarily reflected from ungrounded metal.Metal roofs and dense foliage of tall trees or placement of buildings in a valley below communication antennas are helpful.Use of magnesium oxide (MgO) in stucco or plaster, replacing cement, can provide aome shielding.
Detailed report(s) will be submitted within 14 days of (interim and) final property inspection(s).It will contain inspection details of site(s), values recorded, inspection locations on property map, sketch,and/or building layout plan (plat).Recommendations and mitigation suggestions will be supplied to satisfy client’s requests.
At beginning of inspection work, and considered part of the overall report package, two CD’s of background information will be provided each client:(1) References, research, and resources on the hazards and healing effects of EMFs, and (2) a national teleconference call with Willima Pawluk, M.D., and Jim Beal about “Beneficial EMF’s vs Harmful EMF’s & Their Effects on Hyperelectrosensitivity of the Body”.
PRIOR, DURING, & FOLLOWUP INSPECTION
Optimum results are obtained if EMF inspections can be done on site before building, then during building fabrication for determine of shielding requirements and ease of shielding installation behind paneling.At end of building construction, when electrical systems are fully operational, a final inspection is required to be sure shielding is adequate in areas of high occupancy.For clients, especially those with electrical hypersensitivities, a follow-up inspection may be needed, if new communication towers are built or modified in the neighborhood, or if new wireless systems installed nearby (routers, WiFi, cordless phones.)
